OnePlus, weeks ahead of its OnePlus 6 smartphone launch, has started rolling out new OS updates for the existing OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T smartphones. The update comes in the form of OxygenOS 5.1 and is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. These include a bunch of system upgrades, optimisations and improvements in the launcher.
Both smartphones get April Android security patch with Oreo 8.1, while the OnePlus 5T additionally gets the support for full-screen gestures. The Gaming Mode gets power saving and pausing adaptive brightness features alongside network boost wherein you can choose the network priority for the gaming app in the background.
As for the launcher, the smartphone gets new category tags in the search section. The folders too will be named automatically based on the category of apps.
Since this is an incremental update, all the OnePlus 5 and 5T users won’t get OxygenOS 5.1 at once. Both the handsets received Android 8.0 Oreo update earlier this year.
The version pushed the smartphones’ launcher to version 2.2 and the gallery app to version 2.0. It also brought the upgraded version of the Weather app and File Manager.
While software updates are just one side of the coin, OnePlus seems to be working on the hardware front as well. The handset maker has already confirmed it will bring OnePlus 6 by June this year.
The firm has also been aggressively posting teasers on social media for the handset, generating hype before the launch. Although the handset’s date of arrival has not been confirmed, the device is nonetheless expected to see the light of the day sometime in May.
Some of the confirmed features of the OnePlus 6 include – Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, alert slider’s integration in the camera, screen gestures, bezel-less display and the iPhone X-like ‘notch’. The handset will be exclusive to Amazon as well.
