Now, you may soon get a Blue tick on Twitter

If you are among those Twitter users who have been aspiring to sport a little blue tick against your name, here is some good news for you.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, has said that the social media platform is working towards allowing any user to have a verified account. In a Periscope livestream, he also shed some light on the idea behind the Blue tick. He said, "The intention is to open verification to everyone. And to do it in a way that is scalable so we’re not in the way and people can verify more facts about themselves and we don’t have to be the judge and imply any bias on our part.”
David Gasca, product director, Twitter, also mentioned that the Blue ticks do not represent that Twitter approves of the entity but is a way to differentiate the verified person from the crowd. He said, "The main problem is we use it to mean identity, but because of the way it was originally started, where it was only given to certain very large public figures, celebrities, etc., it came to have a lot of status associated with it, as well.”
“They think of it as credibility. Twitter stands behind this person, Twitter believes that this person is someone that — what they’re saying is great and authentic, which is not what at all what we mean by the checkmark."
In 2016, Twitter allowed any user to apply for a Blue badge by asking them to fill a form as why their account should be verified. However, in 2017, Twitter suspended this feature after it received backlash after the verification badge was given to controversial figures.
Twitter has been actively taking corrective measures. It has said that it is preventing cryptocurrency-related accounts of running scams on its platform. Before that, Twitter also asked anyone to submit their proposals for its new approach that would be based on identifying metrics to gauge the "health of public conversations" and ways to measure it.
