Samsung fans the wait is finally over, as the South Korean consumer electronics giant has launched its flagship device - Galaxy Note 8 in India. Successor to the last year's Galaxy Note 7, the Note 8 is the first device of the company to come with a dual rear camera setup.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes with a price tag of Rs 67,900 and will be available online on Amazon and on all the authorised retail stores in the country. The device will come in classic midnight black and Metal gray colour options. The device will go on pre-booking starting September 21. The customers who pre-book the device will get free wireless charger and one time screen replacement. Along with this, HDFC credit card holders will get a casback of Rs 4,000 on the purchase of the device. The company has also introduced a Samsung Galaxy Note trade program, in association with cashify app. Lastly Reliance Jio will also offer extra 448GB data with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes with a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED 'Infinity' display with 2960x1440. The device runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat update and is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes with the company's home-brewed Bixby digital assistant, rival to Apple Siri and Microsoft Cortana. The company claims that Bixby can do much more than its rivals, including being able to handle any smartphone-related task that is managed by touch. The voice assistant will initially be integrated with Samsung's native applications including Camera, Contacts, Gallery, Messages and Settings. The company has incorporated a dedicated button for the virtual assistant and users can also say 'Hey Bixby' to launch the app. The Bixby capability will roll out in India starting September 30 for both Note 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+.
The pahblet offers 6GB of RAM and comes in 64GB storage variant, which can be expanded further by adding a microSD card. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is the first device of the company to sport a dual rear camera setup. The rear camera includes two 12MP sensors, while the first one is a wide angled lens with f/1.7 aperture, the secondary camera includes a telephoto zoom lens with f/2.4 aperture. The front is home to an 8MP selfie shooter with f/1.7 aperture.
The company claims that both the cameras at the rear end come with Optical Image Stabiliser. The camera also has a Dual Capture mode wherein both rear cameras take two pictures simultaneously. Moreover, the users can save both the images: One close-up shot from the telephoto lens and one wide-angle shot that show the entire background.
The device comes equipped with a fingerprint sensor, facial recognition and iris scanner along with this it also offers support for Samsung Pay, which was launched by the company earlier this year.
The phablet is backed by a 3,300 mAh battery and supports wireless fast charging. In terms of connectivity, the device offers 4G, VoLTE, 3G, Bluetooth v5.0, USB Type-C, NFC, GPS and Wi-Fi.
Coming to the stylus, the Samsung this time has introduced an 'enhanced' S Pen, which will enable the users to take notes in Screen off memo or quickly annotate documents and photos. This time the S Pen comes with a finer tip and is also more pressure sensitive. The company has also introduced Live Messages that lets you handwrite a message, add special effects and share it as an animated GIF.
