Windows comes with a lot of useful built-in programs and utilities (e.g. Calculator, Sound Recorder) that can come in really handy for our daily productivity needs. And one such program is Notepad. Although it's pretty bare-bones, Notepad is really convenient when you need to quickly jot down important information in plain text format.
However, one crucial functionality that's still missing from Notepad is the ability to automatically save content at regular intervals. So if you don't hit Ctrl+S every few minutes, or if your PC freezes/restarts due to some random error, all the unsaved information in Notepad is lost.
But it doesn't have to be that way, as you can use a nifty utility called Notepad AutoSave that automatically saves Notepad contents at regular intervals.
Notepad AutoSave constantly monitors the active Notepad instance and auto saves it every 30 seconds. It can also display a countdown a 3 second countdown tool-tip before triggering an auto save. You can even configure the time duration between auto saves by editing the included configuration file.
To get started, simply download and extract Notepad AutoSave. Run the program (preferably with administrator level elevation), and it'll start running in the system tray.
That's pretty much it. You can start working with a Notepad file, and Notepad AutoSave will keep monitoring it for changes. The program will automatically save the content at regular intervals. If the file has never been saved, it'll generate a save prompt asking you to specify a file name and save location.
