The iPhone SE shares the body and screen of the iPhone 5s, but when it comes to photography and performance, it blows it out of the water. But is it worth paying twice for? Sources tell us that the iPhone 5s, even though dropped from the comparison page of iPhones on their website, is unlikely to be discontinued and will keep receiving regular iOS updates for the foreseeable future.
- Design
The iPhone 5s and SE have identical footprints. That means any accessory of the iPhone 5S will work fine with the SE and vice-versa.
The phones have a 4-inch retina display that isn’t the gorgeous, but the most comfortable one for one-hand use. While both the phones are available in grey, gold and silver, only the iPhone SE has a rose gold option. So, if you want a pink-ish phone, the iPhone SE is the phone for you.
- Camera
This is where things get interesting. The iPhone 5s has a good camera, but the iPhone SE sports the best camera module Apple puts on its devices -- 12 MP iSight camera capable of 4K video recording. This is the same camera available on the iPhone 6s, 6S Plus and the new, smaller iPad Pro. It can also capture Live Photos -- a GIF-like photograph -- and has the screen-flashing feature for brighter selfies.
- Performance
The new iPhone SE is twice as fast as the iPhone 5s because it sports the latest A9 processors -- also found one the iPhone 6s smartphones.
- Price
The 16 GB iPhone 5s costs Rs 18,000 on e-commerce sites while the iPhone SE with the same storage is going to set you back Rs 39,000. Basically, you can buy two iPhone 5s and go out for dinner instead of buying an iPhone SE. Also, on e-commerce sites, the iPhone 6s is available for almost the same price and packs all the features in a slimmer design with the bigger 4.7-inch Retina display.
So, unless you really want a 4-inch screen and the latest features -- except for 3D Touch available on the iPhone 6s -- you should just buy the iPhone 6s, or settle for a relatively wallet-friendly iPhone 5s.
Buying an iPhone 5s isn’t a bad decision considering that it’s going to keep receiving regular updates from Apple and is likely to keep getting cheaper than it already is. Then, with the cash that you saved, you could buy a OnePlus 2, Nexus 5x or any other great Android phone with all the features of iPhone 5s and more.
